Marcie Beth Jaffee grew up in the small town of Enosberg Falls, VT but now lives in Atlanta, GA. She holds a PhD in biochemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and works at the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta.
Marcie is one of four siblings and enjoys reading, watching movies, exploring new neighborhoods, and meeting new people. She began working with InStepp about a year ago after doing research on volunteer opportunities in the Durham area. She currently contributes articles to the InStepp blog. In the past, she has volunteered at animal shelters and with the Bernie Sanders campaign.
Working with InStepp has helped Marcie realize how important it is for women of all backgrounds to have a strong support network. She enjoys writing and says that contributing to the success of InStepp enhances that enjoyment. She is inspired by the leadership and insightfulness of CEO Gilda Womble and adds, “It feels great to be able to contribute to such an important and positive organization.”
Working at InStepp, says Marcie, has encouraged her to explore other ways of giving back to her community, and writing articles has allowed her to learn and communicate about many important topics. For other InStepp volunteers, Marcie offers this piece of advice: “I recommend that volunteers take advantage of the opportunity to express themselves. I think that Gilda is receptive and helpful to anyone who has new ideas about new directions or initiatives for InStepp.”
