Irene Owens grew up in Haverhill, MA and now resides in Raleigh, NC. Irene has an Associate’s Degree in Business as well as a Paralegal Certificate. She works as the Sr. Legal Specialist at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina and handles corporate and employment law matters for the Company. Irene has a son and a daughter and has been blessed with 3 grandsons who she adores.
Irene is an women’s empowerment blogger and actively supports women’s rights. Irene has always been an advocate for women and was looking for an opportunity where she could be more involved in addressing issues and challenges that many face. She became a InStepp Inc. board member in April 2017. Irene handles the twitter account and her expertise has enabled InStepp to double the amount of followers in a short time. Having walked through similar challenges, Irene is inspired by InStepp’s programs which are immensely beneficial to the community. Working for InStepp has inspired Irene to do more and encourages people to “Sign UP!” to be a volunteer.
In her spare time, Irene volunteers and spends time with family and friends. Her friends describe her as loyal and outgoing. Irene has a rich volunteering portfolio. She recently was selected to serve on the Board of Directors of the African American Black Employees Network (“AABEN”) at Blue Cross Blue Shield NC. In the past, Irene has served as the Volunteer Co-Chair for the North Shore Tour de Cure Bike Ride, an annual event that raises money for the American Diabetes Association. A few years ago, she and her co-workers at NxStage came together to form a committee that was responsible for rallying support throughout the company in order to solicit donations for the National Kidney Foundation. She was also an active volunteer for One Tail at a Time, an animal rescue and provided a warm loving foster home for puppies and dogs during their transition from the animal shelter to their forever homes.
