Esha Herbert-Davis grew up in Toronto, Canada but now calls Durham her home. She holds a degree in sociology and and is co-founder of Events by Ashé, a retreat planning company.
Esha comes from a very large family, although her current Durham-based family includes only herself and her husband. She enjoys reading, sewing, and dreaming about where to travel next with her business clients.
Esha first learned about InStepp several years ago when she met CEO Gilda Womble at a networking event. From the start, she loved what InStepp was doing in the community, but it was not until last summer that she was able to arrange her schedule to allow time to be an InStepp volunteer. She is now InStepp’s Volunteer Coordinator, which means she is the first contact other volunteers have with the organization. She also recently completed mentor training and looks forward to being paired with a mentee.
Esha has always been involved in volunteer work that empowers and engages women of color and built her business around her passion for developing transformative retreats tailored to women. “I am generally inspired by the work that InStepp does to empower the women who enter their doors,” she says, adding that working with Gilda inspires her to keep moving forward with her own business venture.
Her advice to future volunteers is simple: “Join us!,” she says. “InStepp is a great place to affect real change in your community. When you empower one woman, you empower a community, and InStepp does that everyday.”
