Janicqua Elkerson is a native of Raleigh. She is a graduating senior at North Carolina Central University and works part-time as a cashier at Harris Teeter. Currently, she lives with her mother in Raleigh. Her 25-year old sister along with the rest of her extended family lives in close proximity to her and her mother. Janicqua is expecting her first child with her boyfriend in February.
Janicqua came across the InStepp website online and started volunteering as a Clerical Assistant in August. She saw the different programs that InStepp offers and reached out to learn more about the agency. As a Volunteer Clerical Assistant, she provides general office and clerical support functions for office staff members as needed
Janicqua is not new to volunteering and has volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club in Durham, the Food Bank in Raleigh and also helps to keep the highway clean on a regular basis. She is creative and likes to do arts and crafts in her spare time. Her friends would describe her as shy, funny, goofy, loving, and caring.
What drives Janicqua’s passion to volunteer for InStepp? She thinks it’s important to uplift women especially in today’s society. Women sometimes need a helping hand and a shoulder to lean on. Working with InStepp has taught her to be more independent and that she can accomplish any task she puts her mind to.
