It is our Winning Season.
As I consider Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday, I am reminded of Maya Angelou. And as a matter of fact, her birthday is coming up, soon (which, by the way, is ALSO MINE!).
“Still, I rise.”
Sorry – I am poetic by nature.
When I was a freshman (first year student for my PC audience) in college, I had an experience that was not pleasant. There was a young lady who lived in the dorm next to me, and I was told by my peers not to befriend her. I was WARNED. I went against their better demands. And afterwards, I experienced a series of events that were (at a minimum) questionable.
I am not putting her business out there. But what I AM saying is this:
We had a dorm event that was intended for us to be encouraged. We were allowed to put a poster up of something encouraging to us. I posted a poem – “Phenomenal Woman” – and someone tore it down out of meanness. I am of the strong opinion that the same young females who told me to leave her alone were the ones who, despite some of them, helped to make sure that hurt happened.
Basically, on this Good Friday, and during this Resurrection week which happens to fall during Women’s History Month, I’d like to say – Still WE Rise.
May I – Is a tribute to my birthday twin – Mother Maya.
Best wishes,
