January. February. They even sound dreary. The first few months of the year drag by with gray skies and a multitude of winter woes. But there’s hope, because now it’s March. Though I wouldn’t exactly call March my favorite month, it comes with its rewards.
Some people don’t like the time change that comes with Daylight Savings Time. As someone who is still learning to navigate the adult world, I can definitely use the extra hours of daylight. On a typical work day, I may feel like I had a great day at work. Then I get bummed about all of my responsibilities and personal goals that I’ve been neglecting. Grocery shopping, washing clothes, making dinner. Writing blog articles and poems. Reading, doing yoga exercises. Getting caught up on episodes of my favorite shows. Even if it is the same amount of time in the winter, it doesn’t feel like it. As soon as I get home from work, it’s already getting dark outside. When the sun goes down, my willingness to take care of my responsibilities goes right along with it. Having longer days will definitely increase my productivity and put me back on track.
Though Spring doesn’t officially start until 3 weeks in, this is another reason that I look forward to March. The weather has been fluctuating the past few weeks: in the 50s on some days and lower 70s on other days. On those colder days, I find myself layering my clothes in the early mornings. Cold weather also decreases my productivity. When cold and dark collide during the fall and winter months, my main goal is to get home as soon as possible—where there is warmth. I don’t always think to hang out with others during this time. It’s harder for me to look stylish with thicker layers of clothes. Not that it can’t be done. It just may require more time and effort. Hopefully, we will have consistently warmer days in the weeks to come. I’ll be more willing to stay out later. And I won’t have to layer my clothes!
Overall, March just seems better than the first two months of the year. It is a time of transition and growth, and it’s full of so much promise. The end of the dreary 60-day trial is up. If January and February have failed you, there’s a chance of a fresh start in March. Longer, warmer days are ahead of us. And hopefully more productivity and personal growth. Here’s to March!
