Nueva Vida is a culturally-specific economic empowerment program that provides employment counseling and job placement support to Hispanic-Latino immigrant women who are either survivors of domestic violence, unemployed or under-employed. Hispanic women who have immigrated to the United States often find it difficult to build a comfortable environment for their families due to poverty and financial obstacles. Therefore, the primary goal of this program is to increase the economic independence of Hispanic-Latino women who are enrolled into the program by referral or as walk-ins.
In addition to employment counseling and placement support, Nueva Vida provides eight hours of employability skills training to its clients using a culturally specific curriculum which is delivered in Spanish. The curriculum covers the basic rights of immigrant workers, career planning and job choices, the basics of the job search process, interviewing etiquette, communication skills, and wage and job benefits. The following complementary workshops are also available to program participants: Motivational Strategies; Available Legal Protections for Battered Immigrant Women; Navigating Public Services; and Creating a Safe Work Environment.
