Ann Marie Tamayo is the Citizenship Education Coordinator at InStepp Inc. In this role, Ann Marie provides leadership & direction for all citizenship instruction activities, supervises & trains civics instruction staff and volunteers, assists with community outreach, conducts tests to assess ESL proficiency & serves as Lead Citizenship Instructor. Ann Marie has an M.A. in Applied Linguistics from Queens College. Early on in her career, she taught at the Fulbright Commission in Quito, Ecuador and after four years became the Coordinator of the program. While in Ecuador, in addition to her regular duties, she organized workshops and community outreach, and she also had the opportunity to attend the Association of Bi-national Centers in Latin America (ABLA) in 2000 in Lima, Peru. Ann Marie went on to teach at Queens Community College for 10 years and later worked at St. John’s University and New York Institute of Technology. She moved to North Carolina in 2016 and worked at Wake Technology Community College in the ABE program and taught online for Voxy, Inc. Throughout her career, Ann Marie has had the wonderful experience of working on curriculum design, intake testing and teacher mentoring; however, most of her time has happily been spent in the classroom. She looks forward to helping students on their journey to becoming US Citizens.
